Comments: Hello, what a surprise to find this memorable web site thanks to Spencer Balmer. My association with Picop was from 1975 until it left the Soriano hands in the early 80's. I worked closely with Roger Salazar during that time. Well done Mart and I'll look out some memorabilia that I have packed away.

Comments: Where to Start. Did we like living in Bislig? Well we had 3 children in school there; we had planned to retire in south Mindanao, had we not had a severe financial setback; we still have contact with at least 5 Bislig families; so you might say we really did love beiing there. This christmas (2007)we were able to visit with out neighbours of 8 years in Bislig. We happened to be in south Florida when the Ricardo Santiago family decided to have a reunion in Tampa. We spent the day with them and got caught up on many of the recent changes. Our two youngest boys, Trevor and Kevin, grew up with Raymond and Ricky. We have lots of pictures(still packed) and a bunch of Balitang Picops to reinforce the memories of our wonderful time in Bislig. With no hesitation; we both consider it to have been the best time of our lives. To all those who might remember us we wish you happiness and continued long life

Hi Mart,

Please allow me to introduce myself, I am Mr. Marco Polo V. Potato a member of class 74 of St. John Bosco School, My main purpose of writing you this letter is to solicit your help for me to get in touch with my former JBS classmates.

You know for the past 5 years I have been having this urge to meet my former classmates, I am even planning to travel back to Mangagoy just to take a chance if maybe some of them have stayed there for good, which I think it could be a big possibility.

In my eagerness to find out about them, I was able to reach your website (FOB) and I was very very happy to find some pictures of my class 74 latest reunion which took place sometime July 2006? My heart was pounding as I carefully take a close look at each one of them (Susan de Borja,Rise Pabelonia ,Venie Santos,Sandy and Glenda Bracamonte,Etherl Estrella,Emma Noynay,Asuncion Polina,Lita Sta. Cruz,Malu Decorina,Benny Morata,Jessie Ebron).

Sayang hindi ako naka-attend, nawala ako sa circulation after our first reunion in the house of Venie Santos in Fairview?

Sana mag-organize ulit ng grand reunion. At sigurado aatend talaga ako, I am presently working in Batam Indonesia (45 min.ferry ride from Singapore).

Mart can you please forward me any email address of our JBS class 74. Maybe it would be great help if FOB and JBS alumni have master list of email addresses and contact details sa website natin para madaling magkakontakan, makakatulong pa sigurado ito sa tourism ng Mangagoy.Lastly I give my two thumbs up sa effort mo sa pagawa ng FOB website, Brilliant work!!!! Isa lang ang masasabi ko,,, Palagay ang Mangagoy ay Blessed by “God” marami kasing mga taga Mangagoy na umasenso sa buhay…

Mart I will be waiting for your response and Maraming Salamat Po !!!  Mabuhay Po Kayo!!!!

“God Bless”

P.S.

I also studied at St. Margarette Mary’s School (grade 5), the school building was right at the foot of the hill leading to the church.

One afternoon sa class ni Miss Legaspi meron pumasok na ahas sa classroom,,, nag-akyatan lahat ng babae sa table…Oh what a memory!!!

We were taught to sing a beautiful song entitled “Mangagoy Sunny Place”.

Best Regards and more power sa website natin

Dear FOB Members:

Hi to all of you!  I am glad and grateful that you invited and accepted me into your e-group.  I have always longed for the good, old days in Mangagoy, when I was stationed there as a PAL employee (1964-1966), and where I met and married the "belle of Mangagoy", Medy Rojas (in 1965).  Mrs. Letty Bustos-Castillo, Vince's (Boyet) mom, was Medy's boss at the Bislig Inn and was our "ninang", and Boyet himself was, if my memory (of an old man, now almost 63 years old) does not fail me, our ring bearer, while his sister, Honey, was our flower girl.

Except for Mario Buenaventura, who (again, if my memory still functions properly) worked with me for a while in PAL, and Boyet, of course, I am afraid I do not remember any of you.  You must have been very young children at the time I was there.  The names I remember are those of :  Bert Dormendo, Ely & Perla Lorenzana, Lando Osano, (?) Astor, the late Teddy Buenaventura, and those of the "bosses" in BBLCI/PICOP, Bill Godinez, Bill Misa, Bill Creutz (the daredevil pilot), Rene & Olga Morelos (Olga was also our "ninang"), Mr. Dos Remedios, etc.

The last time I was in Mangagoy was about 8-9 years ago, when I was still an undersecretary in the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).  I remember staying in a nice, little hotel that was just outside the PICOP Gate #1 (is it still there).  I was looking for my old boarding house (Fidel Canubida's) but it was no longer there.  I also missed the old movie house of Mr. Eustaquio "Tiks" Morales, where Medy and I used to date!  And, of course, I missed my old PAL offices -- both the one in the airport and the "downtown" office (which was then located in the commercial building that was owned by former Governor Recaredo Castillo).

If any of you (aside from Mario and Boyet) remembers me and Medy, please let me know.  If there is a planned homecoming to Mangagoy one of these days, please also let me know.  If my schedule allows it, I would want to join it.

Best regards,

Dear Mart,

I just had a chance to peep on the website you mentioned last time you visited Davao sometime in 2005, re your plan to create one website for the benifits of Bisliganon.

I would like to inform you that my feeling when you mentioned your plan was that, it will require lots of time and efforts in doing the necessary researches to make things impressive and all those became possible and there you go.

It was really wonderful to imagine how i grew up with your group together since elementary (Grade four, 1963) and experienced the life of a Bisliganon in the forested areas of Mangagoy.

How i imagine the games we played during our elementary grades like shatong, tumbang lata and many more. I remember joining our hands in catching young turtles (2 inches in sizes) underneath yours and our houses in KM 1, now Tabon. Now that it is christmas season, it refreshes my mind of the days we went to caroling and enjoying the shares of P3.25 each, of the four children caroling group experiencing part of the youngsters life.

I can also imagine with sentimental feelings the hard days we experienced in the place including staying at home during rainy season that lasted no less than three (03) days. In many situations, rains last more than a week. It was really terrible but it made us stronger persons that became our capital in all our dealings in life.

With this project you initiated, I will try to contribute in any manner that will sure fit to your needs. Indeed, It is worth showing to our children. Appreciated your creation very much.

Will keep-in-touch.

Jing Quijada

Comments: Hello! I am the youngest daughter of Dr. Tomas and Erna Virtucio.

I am so glad to have stumbled into this site. And even more when I saw pictures of Daddy, Zeb, York, Cugie and William. Daddy and Zeb passed away, for those who still don't know.

I do not have much memories of our Bislig days, we left when I was going on Grade 2. The friends that I remember are Susan Remedios and Jaime Godinez. I may have been very young when we left, but i grew up hearing all sorts of stories of the life and the friends of my family in Bislig.

I browsed through all the pages and I did not see any contribution from the Virtucios, so here I am, please count us in.

Mommy (Erna) resides in Quezon City with my brother Vincent. She turned 82 this year. York and Umbert also reside in Quezon City, and William in Caloocan. Cugie is in South Carolina while Angie lives in Baltimore, Maryland, she is married to Alan Bronfein.

I have been a resident of Tacloban City in Leyte for the past 26 years.

If incase you need to get in touch with any of them, just let me know.

God Bless you for coming up with this wonderful site!

Hi Mart,
Thank you for the website. It is really a wonderful work and I enjoy recollecting our happy childhood. I read that you wanted info on Barite. It was one of the mines that was operated by a Soriano company called International Engineering Corp. Barite is used in oil drilling as lubricant in the form of mud. The other was called Micopee ( not sure of the spelling but that’s how it sound) which is a coal mine that is now being mined by Consunji group.they are both near Lingig.

My Dad used to work there. Some of the people I remember there were the Reburianos. Asilums (Henry’s father Nong Iko was the driver of the truck that would bring people to Mangagoy on the weeknds) , Palers, Quinonez, Martin Umandap and Prisco Viduya who would carry me on his back after the movie at the clubhouse. The only one I remember from the coal mine are the Arrietas. This is all for now.

salamat for answering my letter.  actually i do enjoy reading this page.  as u know i'm leaving in germany but i came from where else from bislig mismo....
sana sumulat ka rin what's new in bislig..u know, para naman kami updated dito, mawala ng konti ang homesick namin......u know bislig is a great place to live no matter what......:).

i wish i could help u......
keep up the good work....
goodluck!!!!!

Dear Anrey and Pipay,
Please accept my apology for this very late reply...usually, i could immediate give some zzzipp answers, but has been so busy lately especially that i am single right now doing all the house chores and everything....

Most of the information you can find in our website were voluntarily given by Bisliganons whom i have known personally although some are not. The long write-ups about JBS were taken from an already existing documentary that i had re-typed.

The supposedly "Website Team" never happened kaya kami lang ni
Zola Licup-Pariseau ang nag-initiate to start it up with a few requests to a few remaning friends in Mangagoy. Our intention is to put up something in our website in order to stimulate the rest of friends. It did, but only to some extent, and we are still hoping that someday, some friends would take the time to contribute about ASC and the rest of the schools. Some write-ups about Mangagoy and Bislig has been requested, but i guess everyone seems can't find the time to do it. Or "nahihiya lang siguro" o baka ang akala ay for Picop lang ito with "Staff kuno" mentality hanggang ngayon. I have repeatedly mentioned that this is for all ages and friends who lived and loved Bislig.

Kung ako ang tatanungin " I have no bias whatsoever in the creation of this website".

Now i am left alone to do the updates "still standing" and just waiting for more contributions. I have a great vision about this whole thing and i wished i could retire early and do more digging and updates. There are still so many things i want to do about our website, but my hands are so full already. I guess we just have to contend ouselves with what we got.... i do enjoy browsing it once in a while...kahit araw-araw if i have the time.

I wished friends like you could help me about this.....let's fill in the gap together, find the missing links and so on...

I really hope you don't mind me posting my reply to both of you because this practically concerns everyone. I am so glad that you took the courage to ask me these questions.

Hapit na alas dose sa gabii....I took the time to write this dahil kung hindi ay i will never be able to do it. katuwgon na gyod ko...til then !
Best regards,
Mart

Comments: hi mart,
first i would like to congratulate u for having this beautiful homepage.  i salute u for this.  ang di ko lang masabtan, why did u call it a bislig history, when it fact, you're writing more about picop and its pioneer.  i know nagsulat sab ka about the history of bislig, but mostly it's more on picop and the people who worked out there.  tapos you even only focus jbs, it just because it's your alumni. what about the other schools. which comes first.  jbs or the public schools.  what about a story of people of bislig proper, i haven't read any article....ano ba ang unang na form ang govt. of bislig or ang establishment of picop.
hangang dito na lang muna ako, i still have a lot of question.......

DLSJBC lng cguro and "friend of Bislig"
tho, we should be proud that we have a la salle affiliated school, let us not forget that more than half of the Bisliganonz were educated by the other schoolz....
weve been waiting for you to include our school in your "friends list"...
i know na mahirap gumawa ng research sa isang school lng dahil marami ang dapat alamin at gawin...pero kung nag exert kayo ng effort to make a very comprehensive history ng dlsjbc to include it in your site, bakit until now wala pa rin yung sa SVPC,ASC, STIP, at USEP?
makes me wonder...
pero ang ganda ng site nto....

Hi Martin, hope you still remember me, kapatid ni Ruth, silingan baya ta sa Tabon.  It's so wonderful to know and read all these messages.  congratulations for the job well done.  I saw your pictures when you went to Bislig and visited Ruth, may bigote kana diay, you were very slim or payat niadtong gamay ka pa pero guapo lang gihapon.  Anyway, I am still working with PICOP here in Manila and nag abot pa kami ni Nene, your sister, dito sa Manila office then Nene retired.  Just recently, I was scanning/calling phones of our silingan sa Mangagoy kasi gusto ko makausap si Mila dela Rosa, our kapitbahay also sa Tabon, then I called Nene but she was not around but I was so happy to talk to your Tatay.  Tatay could not remember me but he knows Wennie, Minia,  Lina, my sisters and we talked 30 minutes and he was also glad I called.  He talked about the visit of Narsing Borja, Pete Fernandez, I think mga 5 sila, sa bahay nyo, & I think it was your Tatay's b-day and he was very happy!

Hi Mart,

I don't know how much time and effort you have spent to have this things put together, but one thing I did know it takes desire of a heart and passion to have this Bislig History Website comes into reality. I commend you and all of the people behind you for the job well done.

joji delima

p.s..I recently visited the website since you have invited us for an open viewing last march06, I was amazed how things had become so impressive, more informative and even more educational. One thing I'm sure in the near future, should this site will be known around the world for those thrill & nature lover seekers, not to mention the nostalgic former
Bisliganons who had been away for sometime, watch out for the influx of tourist visiting Mangagoy/Bislig and the positive economic impact it will contribute to the Town of Bislig we once lived.

Good job Mart.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Martin,

By the way Martin, what a wonderful job that you have done on the history of your home town. I really, really enjoyed reading about your town and the mills etc. Great Work!! I too grew up in a company town where most everything was supplied by the company. I also was fortunate to work in management in Mackenzie B.C. which was a company town where everything was controlled and supplied  by the company . Mackenzie was a instant town developed to manufacture lumber, pulp and paper from the resource around Williston lake which is a man made lake developed to supply hydro to B.C. through generation at Bennet dam. it was a wonderful place to work and raise a family. Today I meet people from Mackenzie in management in a lot of the mill towns in B.C. So I can relate to your history as it is much like my own.

Again Martin You have done a wonderful job on this and I'm sure it will be appreciated by many of the folks that grew up with you. Sorry to learn of the huge fire and the distress it is causing the people there. Hopefully that Manila will provide resources to look after the people. They have a huge problem there now with this latest storm .                                                                             Carl

Mr. Carl Baker has worked with Fletcher Challenge Canada as Woodlands Operations Manager and retired at a young age. He is involved now in varied forest products business.

I've had a wonderful memories of Bislig- my birth place. Enclosed are pictures of LABISMA (Los Angeles Bislig Mangagoy Association, USA). Our President is Victor Alvar (formerly Bislig City Councilor).Pls do me a favor if your can publish these pics to ur website, I would appreciate it. The solo pic with the big face - that's me (hehehe).  Regards and more power to you..............Reggie

i've seen the site and it was good. a few years ago, i thought of  collecting all the old pictures from mangagoy and talk to someone who  could finance the publishing of this photo book that tells history.  anyway, the website is a good idea. and it's cheaper.  congratulations!

Dear Martin, thank you for contacting me. I have lots of old (very old - anno 1965) pictures in various albums. They obviously predate the current generation. If of interest, and time permitting, I can scan some of them.

Comments: Hi Mart !
This is a good and noble project that you have created and still needing more inputs from the ex-BBLCI/PICOP employees and their children. I might contribute  later some stories about my former firends in Mangagoy since my employment from 1966 until the year 1982. I worked with BBLCI under the management of Mr. J.S Asido, Acctg. Manager.  I started as Clerk I and rose   from the ranks with my last position as Senior Accountant (Staff) before I left PICOP in 1982.
Actually it was  Zola Licup who told me about this website.  She visited her in-laws relatives in Calgary and she contacted me by phone as she got no more time to meet me before going back to Edmonton.
Try to organize the content of every title as presented and so do with the pictorials(needs zooming).  At least you created this site for the friends of Bislig to reunite and make some contact to each other.  Mart, we must not forget the Soriano's family coz thru BBLCI/PICOP,most of the employees were able to give their children a good and better education.  I found my kamayo wife in Mangagoy and we were able to product seven children there. Its fun to remember those happenings every payday night. Anything could happened with hang-over in the following morning.
I will be in touch.  Thanks. -   Rey Cawaling

Hi Martin,
Just seen the website you have initiated and CONGRATS!!!! Even at that stage of said production it will definitely be very worth your trouble, and am sure everyone who lived in Mangagoy will do their best to help.

Our family "ASIDO" came to Mangagoy summer of 1965 and the years that followed were the best.  Will try to look for old  pictures.

Thanks for copying me in of your communications with F.O.B..  I must say the idea is fantastic!

I will immediately disseminate this info to all FOB's in my address book.
Whatever we do now, wherever we are, one way or the other, we are better people because of Bislig!

I will request Manang Ambing ( Recaredo B. Castillo's daughter ) to loan me some of those old pictures of her father for scanning. I am particularly interested in those pictures with Capt.Olbes in the late forties and early fifties with Erat.
I hope their family album is in good order as this will give us part of the photo story how BBLCI came into being.

Hi, Kuya Mart,
Greeeaaaaatttt job!!!  It is very encouraging to see what you have put into it.  It certainly is a big improvement from the text that I originally read.  I will be sending some photos sometime, after asking permission from other people also on the photo.
Hey, I think I see my Dad in one of the photos!!!
I have forwarded your email to our ka-batch, those not on your list, as well as my family.  Hopefully, everyone will also be encouraged to send some more input about Bislig, after seeing something actually now in place.  Thanks for keeping the ball rolling!!!
Keep up the good work!!!

Hi brod Martin,
The FOB history book website you have personally created looks great, especially, the design of the home page !

Please keep it up as you are doing a good job of documenting in the net, the nice memories we all have of bislig.
Just give me a holler if i can be of further help to you. Regards mon villa

Hi Mart,
There you go.... it is satisfying  & encouraging to hear from the few.  Now there is no turning back, hehehehe.....

Mike had already downloaded the pics but have not forwarded yet to my end.
He said, kulang daw ang oras but i believed he took at least 200-300 pics( of course that includes class 72, 77 & 84 photos).  Will see... Excited then ako
in this regard.  He also mentioned, that he will go back to Mangagoy, if he needs to .
 Cheers.

Hi,
I assume you are related to Brod Martin Santos.

Very impressive website. The content and presentation is rich, informative and enjoyable reading. I've seen and have gone through lots of websites with similar theme but the depth and expanse of this one is very encompassing. If I were to award a prize to websites of similar nature, the Friends of Bislig History Book will win hands down.

One comment and suggestion though - I wish  the photos in the Pioneering, The Good Times, Retrospect could be clicked and provide an enlarged photo to better view the persons in the picture. Same goes for the photos in the album. I thought that when I clicked the photo, it will give me enlarge copy but just gave me same size copy.

Anyway, the whole thing is really a major accomplishment and the time, effort, dedication in creating it showed in all the web pages. A true labor of love.

I know that programming and creating websites is sometimes a very thankless job. But in any case, thank you.

Hi Brod Rene,
He-he-he....ako iyon !
Thanks very much for the praise and encouragement...yes, it is truly a labor of love....with passion and inspiration.

----------------------------------------------------------
Hey Marts, this is fabulous work given the constraints
you had to and continue to go through.
Amazing stuff.  Good going buddy.  Let me know if you
need some help in the web hosting part.  That's where
I may be able to pitch in.  I don't have much to share
by way of history.  I stayed in Bislig only for 5
years although it was probably the best 5 years in my
youth.  Much of it is stored in my head as fond
memories. No photos.
Best regards,
Levi Villanueva

Hi Martin,
I think you are doing a brilliant job.  There are some photos lang that  have people that I don't recognize.  Can we put names to the faces?  I love what you are doing, though.
Continue the great work!
Malu Camahort-Moraza

Hi Mart,
I can't believe you did it!  It's a great web site - clean, user-friendly, easy to navigate, and very informative.  It truly is a labour of love, passion and inspiration.

Since it is a "dry-run" and 5% complete, there will be more enhancements to come.
My constructive suggestions:
- Guestbook page. If you can give the visitor will an option to view other visitors entries as well as enter feedback/comments/suggestions.
- Click-able pictures for enlargement and for easier identification in case other visitors will help identify "who is who" - pictures should be labeled with names.
- Use of different font styles in the content of the webpages is quite straining to the eyes (my eyes).  Bold font style should be used when stressing a point, othewise, use regular font style.
- I would like to request if you can link our batch's website: www.geocities.com/jbsbatch77

Keep up the good work, Mart.  I enjoyed browsing through your website.
Thank you for putting this all together.
Cheers,
Reggie Frias

Mart,

You really did a great job! This is my first time to know that there is such a site about bislig thanks to my batchmate, mark mijares.
My family is from forest drive village located near scaling. My parents, Domingo & Loreta Aboga is still there with my eldest brother Alex Aboga who is now a teacher at Bislig National High School. Ate Annie Aboga-Manzano is now at University of the Philippines-Cebu, she is a guidance specialist there, while my other sister Arlene Aboga teaches Math and Computer (HighSchool) at the same school. My other sister, Anna Aboga-Laurente (actually lima kaming babae sa family) is now in Butuan City sa Globe Telecom. Si Ate Ada Aboga-Dequit is in Balamban, Cebu City. We all graduated from JMS-LC (grade school) and John Bosco School (high school).

I really missed my elementary years. I had so much memories sa JMS (forest drive campus). Sayang lang at na close ang school.

Congratulations and hope through this site, we will be able to meet our long lost friends, classmates, neighbors, teachers.

More Power and God Bless to you.

Love this website. It reminds me the days where we used to sleep at the entrance of Estrella Bakery to wait for the morning bread "Pan De Sal" nga amo ibaligya around the barrios of Mangagoy & Tabon then switch to Ice Drop in the later part of the day. Though wala ko natawo sa Mangagoy But I grow up there. Graduated high school in ASC. Was able to as a Math Teacher in ASC (4th year-Earth) and worked also in PICOP (Construction Management Dept.) in 1989. We still have the house in Post 12 (now Post 23), Tabon

Sir Kanape, my father's boss in Logging Dept. invited me to the FOB yahoo group where I found this website.

Now live in Mississauga, ON. Canada. Unta this message will connect me to my classmates in ASC (1982) and Requina Elem. School in Tabon.

dear sir/madam, i was looking for my brother's profile and i was amused that the result were kind of confusing. i did get the name that i was looking for but it seems that it was belong to a different person. but anyway, i opened the page because it stirred my curiousity. i assumed we are relatives to whatever possible affinity. and also, i understand that you are ilonggos just like us. you mentioned about ginamos. if you are a bit interested, my parents are from antique but we are raised in south cotabato in mindanao. i'm here in manila right now. however, i dont know any places that you mentioned in your articles. and to be honest with you, i dont have any knowledge about my relatives other than those reysomas i know in our province. i thought, reysoma is a very uncommon family name so it thrilled me finding out a very familiar one. thank you for reading my letter. i hope you can enlighten me with this. god bless.

Hi everyone! This is a very nice site! I am practically living now at the other side of the Philippines...Dagupan, Pangasinan. Even I barely have the chance to go home to Bislig, this site reminds me of the memories and its rich history. BTW, you mentioned in the school history about Mr. Percival Buenvenida...the Tech-Voc School pioneer teacher who was the one who recruited and trained my father (Margarito Lor). Just met him last week. He's residing in Mangaldan, Pangasinan...if any of you wants to get in touch with him, do send me an email. ;-) Congratulations to you Mart!!! Hope this site runs forever. :-)

Hats off to you Mart!! No one could have done a better job. I visited the site about a year ago and just scanned through it quickly. Today I happened to see an e-mail with the link and just clicked on it. That was like an hour and a half ago and I'm not done yet. Thank you for not giving up. I'm sure it took up a whole lot of time. I'm also sure you enjoyed it because I can see the love you poured into the job. Very impressive. Lita

Although we're just in RP, i have limited contact with them as my lolo has relocated in Cebu for a long time.

I can't help being sentimental to see and read about Bislig. My Dad being one of the Pioneers coming from Macalibre together with the Villas, Balucanag, Reysomas and a few others. I remember somebody saying once you've been or rather been part of Bislig you would not forget it all your life, it would be in your blood. There so many fond memories for me when we were kids. Like I think Mario wrote how the kids plays patintero, eek-eekan(Hide & Seek),Shatum and tumba-lata. The socials the parents attend first in the mess hall, then club house and later on an the gym. The kids too on occasions we have custome party and egg hunting. Our movie- going almost three times a week Remember how the kids go to the swimming at the pool in the clubhouse during the week-ends it was such a novelty for us then. I can go on and on and I would run out of space here. Thank You, Martin for giving all Bisliganons a chance to touch base again. Regards and God Bless! Neneng Castroverde Guevara

Mart, what a great start!!!! Looking at the pictures (even without being able to pull up all the names), I felt that recognition , a sense of familiarity....of homecoming. Sayang, wala kaming pictures - like Lita said, we lost most of them after we moved to Manila (except for the few that survived like the 3 monkeys : hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil.) Names would help, especially kadtong dili naku ka-batch. Thanks for the memories!!! Snooky
