Those were the days ....... 'twas the day before Christmas
Hi Brod Rene, Thanks for these anecdotes....very funny !
The 1st one by Mrs. San Antonio is true and some people even know who the guy is..another version of this is, he said "the road is running...! "
The 2nd - didn't hear it at all, but it sounds like the helper used it like a harmonica on the air, he-he.
The 3rd one - i heard something like this, but only a few has actually fallen. This must have happened in the early days of Drs. Virtucio and Cruz. Dr. Limlingan is still not around yet in those days. From then on, the company bought several buses..... CB-1, CB-2, etc.
I hope that some people can confirm these stories and add more contributions. You know what..when we created this website, i really didn't expect that people would contribute much in terms of short stories, etc. My experience with the FOB e-group would already tell us that most people prefer just to read and waiting for more to read in the e-mails or whatever or maybe a website like the bislig history, but never join or get involve in the conversation or discussions. Some are just plain kibitzers. Some are just plain "Mahiyain" or "puwerte kahilom" or busy raw ...syuuuur ! That is why this website was created full-proof from issues like these. This website will remain forever (hopefully) unless if we run out of funding for the subscription and /or something happens to the moderator.
God willing, we want to maintain this for the rest of time.....improve and expand it if be given a chance at all times. Without BIAS, i am very proud to say that it is a very nice website....it truly is, because it can serve the different taste of the viewers.....the LEGACY continues !
Thanks, too, for the e-card you sent me....very nice animation.
Again, "Maligayang Pasko at Masaganang Bagong Taon" sa iyo at iyong pamilya !
Best regards,
Mart
================================================================================ 24 Dec 2006 Hi, Martin, Merry Christmas to you and to all of your family, too. May the coming New Year be prosperous and peaceful for us all. By the way I enjoyed a lot the jokes in the bislig history books. I'm sure there are lots of jokes about Mangagoyans, too. I heard this one from Mrs. San Antonio when we were in the Castillo apartment and Mrs. San Antonio was the one providing us the meals. She said that during the pioneering days of Bislig, when the Roads supervisor was a foreigner at the time, he received a radio call from one of the loggin truck drivers. The weather was very bad that time. And because of the storm, there was a landslide and made the road not good for travel. Chief: "What happened?" Driver: "The road went away." Engineers and repair crew was sent to make the road fir for use again. The driver called again and said: "The road came back." ============================================== During the pioneering days again... For the first time in such a secluded place as Mangagoy, a telephone system was installed. Most of the important BBLCI employees were provided with connections to their homes. There was this employee who is at work at that time and the wife is out to market, and only the help is left. Then the phone rang. The help was not instructed how to answer the phone and that was the help's first experience with a ringing phone. Reluctantly, the help picked up the phone but did not know how to use it. The help was starring at the end of the phone (the earpiece and the speaker). And then the help moved the phone across his mouth from one end to the other and said seriously: "Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayooooooo". ================================== Again during pioneering days. Workers wouyld assemble at the entrance of the camp to wait for the truck that will take them to the worksite to cut trees. There were no trucks for workers yet during that time, so BBLCI was using the dump truck to carry workers from camp to worksite and back. Workers bring their lunch with them in pots or tin cans or containers to each during break at the worksite. That day, the driver of the dump truck did not come to work. And extra drivers during that time are hard to find since all are in use in driving logging trucks. One very enterprising worker volunteered, said he have driven before, but not a dump truck, but waht's the difference anyway. So, off the workers went. The dumptruck was packed tight during that day. About several kilometers away, the driver noticed that he was not driving fast enough so he tried to change gears. Unknowingly he turned on the lever that activated the dumptruck bed where the workers are. Slowly, the bed rose. And the workers start to slide to the end of the dumptruck. The workers were shouting to driver: "Hunong, hunong, hunong!". But the dirver couln't hear above the noise of the dumptruck's engine and exhaust pipe. Then one by one the workers dropped off the truck. (It was not clear to me how the driver found out that he dropped his passengers) Later on, helped was called because some workers are injured badly. Dr. Limlingan cannot believe what he saw, when he arrived at the scene. Workers were scattered over a long stretch of the road, all aching badly and pots and tin cans scattered all over. ================================================= I don't know if any of the above is true, but some who are BBLCI pioneers might know. More power to your site, Rene' Z. =============================================================================== 18 Jan 2005
Boyet, it's a nice start...pareho bang bapor iyong sinakyan natin ? I was only 7 months old (ako pa lang) when we arrived Bislig in 1954. I think, tumira muna kami sa silong nila Trajano and then moved to the Bunkhouse, na pag high tide ay you are surrounded by water. The "Outhouse" ay i-isa lang, about 50 feet away yata and there are no railings. I could still remember na bawat hila mo ng bingwit na may "wa-te" ay palaging may kasamang "Botete"! Ha-ha-ha ! Then we moved out to Kilometro Uno where i spent my childhood's"Golden Years". Natandaan ko na i was already in 2nd year
H.S. ?? when you moved out naman from your lower camp house to Kilometro Uno Farm and our family took over your former house na kaharap sila Brod Mon V. I just thought to mention this para hindi ko malimutan sa susunod.
I think you can also talk to my parents if you need to. Mahusay pa ang memory nila.

" Memories pressed between the pages of our mind........"
I recall a Bislig Bay News story in 1970 where a Picop dumptruck ran over a giant python. The driver emptied his revolver into the snake to kill it. The carcass was brought to Mangagoy where the townsfolk cooked it and celebrated a fiesta. The diameter of the python’s abdomen was as wide as an electrical pole. I was telling this story to my friends here in Canada and they think I was exaggerating. Does anybody have a copy of that newsclip??

is true, since the dump track driver, mr. jumamil is our neighbor and if you remember we had a classmate name porferio garay they own the house where mr.jumamil resides and this porferio is my playmate..yah.. the python is really big around 28ft.. as i remember.. because the skin along with the head they layed it on an unused electrical pole and the skin is more than the length of the pole.. so all the passersby were scared to see the phyton.. as if it is still alive.. until a japaneese bought the skin.. and thats i remembered.. ok joey.. adios.. best regards, Noel Malicay Hi, this is Lita
Being called an old-timer Bisliganon does not hurt at all. We got there in 1954 (I was 2) and had the nicest, wildest childhood. Maybe instead of "old-timers", "pioneers" would be a better word. By the way Mario is still older than me... haha, Boyet younger though.

brod martin,
"tutti frutti" evokes a lot of pleasant memories to me, too, brod mart ! i can still vividly recall that, you, me and the late boy verdadero have organized a party in your old hill's house after "a spur of the moment decision" from the three of us and after taking halo-halo shakes at tutti fruttis'...do you still remember that, brod mart? it would be nice to see vicky and agnes in the net...iam sure everyone looks forward to it, too ! brod mart, where will i download or send the fotos? Do i send these fotos to our FOB yahoogroups' photo section ? please advise. thanks. regards, mon villa Mon, it was great to see those pictures. I even knew most of the pioneers!!! There was even a picture of my oldest sister Teng and her husband who was then her boyfriend palang. I'm compiling a sort of powerpoint presentation with all the pictures I have and already its like 12MB. I really have to find a way to make them smaller.
Thanks again for those pictures. Most of our old pictures got burned when Robby's apartment burned down years ago and and the rest were eaten by anay. Sayang. So glad there are those like you who take care of memories like those.

![]() Bro,
thanks for resending.

![]() Mario,
The chick behind you is Evelyn Caburian, the person with glasses behind you is Fritzie Aguilar. Ano nangyari sa iyo during chat? Chichi Aguilar Hi Chi,
She is not Evelyn Caburian and Fritzie Aguilar in the foto. Here are their names in the foto: Sitting (L-R) : Andy Dujale / Mario Buenaventura Standing (L-R) :Romy Astillero/Celsa Clar/Mon Villa/"can't remember her name now"/Larry "Boy" Roman Regards, Mon Villa Hi Malu,
I know the guy who caught the python...Bom Jumamil whose wife is a pharmacist. We used to bowl together in the afternoons after his tour of duty. That picture was taken when he was still younger and slimmer. He gained some extra pounds and sported a beard during the later years.

Dear FOBs,
Iam sharing my 5th b-day foto that was celebrated with some of the sons and daughters of the BBLCI pioneers. Some of them have already passed away (God bless their souls!) and the rest are maybe "just there around the corner of the globe". It is my hope that by my sharing this foto, we will once again rekindle the strong bonds that we both have for each other, as a growing kid, in a place that we both love to cherish and hold in our hearts so dearly....MANGAGOY ! ![]() Sitting (Left to Right ) : Chito Olegario/William Virtucio/Yorkee Virtucio/Mon Villa/Dante Chinte/Beb Pascual/Ino Sayawan, Jr./Paul Cosico and Tisoy Reysoma Standing (Left to Right) : Neneng Castroverde/Kugie Virtucio/Boy Villa/Jun Olegario/Dom Chinte/Nenet Castroverde/Zebedee Virtucio/Rosemarie Cosico/Cesar Pinsa/Baby Sayawan/Norma Cosico/Elizabeth Gaspar and Victor Villa Monching Villa
Dear FOB
I found another one. Ignore the three monkeys (Lita, Robby and Snooky) and look at the old airstrip and the lumber yard in the background. The hangar and the PAL office is now where the Mill is, diba?

![]() P255 - Hi Lita,
what you have sent is a rare foto of the old bislig airport inside the BBLCI company premises.yes, i remember the runway....that was where the pioneers played baseball or softball, too, during the labor day holidays, to the delight of their viewing spouses and children and visiting guests.i also remember, that there was a bearing fruit mango tree, i think just beside the hangar. because it was so tall, i used a slingshot to "harvest" the green mango fruits.

Hi Lita,
Was this picture taken from the house in that sharp bend near the gas station na tinirahan namin and the Sanglay's or was the next house in higher elevation (where the Misa, Godinez and Garde's lives-as far as i can remember) ?
You can still see the Dry Kiln Buidings in the background. And partly yata ay ang Finishing Plant.
My Dad mentioned that he might have met your husband before. Is Hubi
involved in the Veneering or Sawmilling equipments of some sort ?

Dear FOB,
Iam sharing an old foto of the "highway strip" facing the St. Margaret Mary Elementary School's playground.I think, the highway remains the same today, as a gravel and sand road and has not changed since this foto was taken in 1966.The houses in the foto have changed, tho!.
I am sure you will recognize some of my classmates in the foto.If you have any information, as to the present whereabouts of the Chavez sisters, Beth Cervantes, Patty Smith, Benjamin Verano and Ruben Sarmiento, please pass this on to me or to my other classmates, Roaxanne Abano-
Mon Villa
brod Mario,
You are right, bro ! I think, the La Salle drive, where the Villa clan resides, and intersects with the "highway strip" is also a cemented road now.So puede na pala tayong mag drag racing or motorbike racing on that strip, ha bro? As a teener, i saw the first motorbike race between a honda and kawasaki 100cc motorbike held on that strip by the businessmen of Mangagoy. Because, the strip, at that time of the race, was still a gravel and sand road, the honda motorbike driver, somewhere in the strip, near the bislig airport, had lost control of the wheel and slipped and therefore, lost the race. Do you still recall this race, bro? Mon Villa Hi Lita,
Me again. I didn't get your attached photo... Pls resend it again.
Yes, that house has almost have a 220 degree view of the complex. You will access the road whether you use the front or kitchen doors and
stairways. The almost constant white dust from the lower roads and the
5 'oclock am loud whistle blown from the logging trucks haven't really bothered us a bit in our stay there. It's just a part of it....'ika nga, ay we all
have a "sawdust blood".
I don't recall seeing a mango tree, anymore, across the street. But i knew
we have one in the backyard along the road plus the Kayomito (star apple ba ito ?) on the side.
Buti kayo, may one inch pa na manga - kami noon, talbos na dahon pa lang (na may asin) ay ubos na... ha-ha-ha ! It's just like, i remember sa km.1 - we use Pintik or Tirador in bird hunting. Pagka-igo sa gamay nga
siwit (sparrow ba ito?), dali dali nga i-sugba and presto !... eto, you have to share it with your group of friends, he-he-he... mas grabe, ano ?
By the way, what is Ginger's husband's name, if you don't mind ?
Cheers !
Mart Santos
Hi Martin,
That picture was taken from your house. We lived there when the Olbes family lived on the higher house (Garde, Godinez and now Willi Fuentes' house). We lived in about 4 houses in the old hill but that particular house was my favorite because we could see the airport and the pier and there was a big mango tree across the street going down to the logpond. We had a treehouse there and the poor mangoes never got ripe since they were eaten already by us at the tender size of one inch. Grabe no?.
The Swiss your dad met is the husband of Ginger, my older sister. He worked for George Fischer Ltd., the supplier of the machines for the veneer and plywood plant. I also worked in that company for about 3 years - got the job through my brother-in-law and of course Bislig was well known to the executives in that company. PICOP was one of their biggest clients.
I'm attaching a picture which was sent to me by my sister Snooky when I was in Switzerland na. I'm sure all these girls are well-known to all of you.
Cheers!
