  "ULI BISLIG" Project

Hi mga amigos of  FOB .  though unsolicited, i wish to share this.  i was at the
Grand reunion of bisliganons Manila Chapter last night March 5 at the Hongkong
Chef Restaurant just adjacent to PNB- Macapagal Avenue (near MOA). Mayor and Mrs
L. Navarro and all the Bislig city Councilors were present.  PNB's Eugene
Acevedo was likewise present and gave an assuring statement of support for the
Mayor's move for the betterment of Bislig city. it was really sort of Grand
reunion of old faces  but young at heart siempre ! really exciting , and  it was
also an induction of officers handling the Luzon chapter headed by Atty Layno

Mayor Navarro exhorted all Bisliganons ( at heart)  residing in Luzon to just go
home and see the difference in Bislig minus PICOP. He said it was blessing in
disguise that PICOP shut down, for Bislig to rise up show its resources.

Civic organization like the FOBI was specially mentioned and thanked by the
Mayor to be one of the movers of helping the project of the city government. if
there will be ideas formed after visiting Bislig, then the mayor can sit down
with group  and start from there to help the city's economy and its people.

i was fortunate to have talked to one of the councilors during the fellowship,
and i learned that the City council is allocating  P180Million for the
development of Tinuy-an Falls based on international standard, complete with
cottages, hotel etc . A foreign Construction company will be handling
the project .

During the Caraga Festival (Bislig being the host city)  mayor Libb  said, Guest
from all over the region was overwhelming and overflowing in number and what
fell short was the Hotel accomodation.  Mayor Libb said .. the time is NOW for
us Bisliganons (at heart) from all parts of the world to work hand in hand for
the bettement of Bislig .

The Mayor of Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, Mayor Librado Cubil Navarro invited all bisliganons who are now based in Cebu City to have dinner with him last night at Vienna Kaffehaus, Mabolo at 7pm. Since I was the secretary of my batch, JBS '85. I was tasked by my Presiden, Mdm. Jonah Lafuente to dessiminate information about this event. I came to the venue 1 hour earlier since I am incharge of the registration of the attendees.

@ 6:45 Ms. Janet Pontevedra, Ms. Jerrisa Junasa and Ms. Eubs Culango arrived.
@ 7:15 Ms. Gina Cantay Kikuchi and Ms. Nonieta Percy followed.
@ 7:20 onwards Ms. Jonah Lafuente arrived and the attendance increased.
@ 7:30 Mayor Librado Navarro and company arrived so we all settled in and started the dinner.

Ms. Janet Pontevedra did the honors to lead the prayer before eating. While eating, everyone seems excited to see and meet fellow Bisliganons since some of the attendees have known each other only in facebook, the famous social networking site nowadays and also because of the organization, FOB.

Dinner was over, the meeting started right away.

Mayor Navarro informed Bisliganons of his purpose why he came to Cebu, his visions for Bislig City, the place where most of us were born, grew up ,educated, and build life with our family.

The mayor's focus:
Promoting Eco-Tourism in Bislig
Inviting Business Investors through Agricultural Approach ( Vegetable and Rice production) Proper trainings of rice and vegetable production will be conducted in various baranggays in Bislig City. Local government aims to develop the agricultural lands of our province.
Advertise the locality's natural beauty like the famous Tinuy-an Falls so that visitors come to Bislig City and explore the wonderful scenery Bislig city could offer them.
Question was raised by Sir Noning Sanglay on what the Local government can give to the entrepreneurs like incentives to the investors, availability of establishments for leasing. Mayor Navarro assured the body that they already have considered about it and that any investors can benefit if they invest and put up business in Bislig City.

Mr. Expedito Damiao also ask Mayor Navarro about the safety and security of visitors and investors. Mayor Navarro ensure the body that when it comes to the security of visitors and investors he guarantees Bislig is a safe place to explore and invest. He further informed everyone that during his term as the Vice Governor of Surigao del sur, it was a peaceful time during his reign.

Ms. Goyen Baz-Sanglay also suggested about exporting handicrafts such as fashion accessory made by local people so that those unemployed can earn income at the same time export handmade products to other provinces.

Ms. Grace Capiton-Melasa announced that in the recent magazine of Zest Airlines, Tinuy-an Falls was advertised as the pride of Southern Davao. Furthermore, Ms .Melasa also said that Bislig city Local Government must not let this happen. We can use Tinuy-an Falls as gateway to tourist and this can be a way to re-open our local domestic airport which has been closed for quite a long time already.

Engr. Emmanuel Nosdo, worked in Mactan National Airport for years, suggested to Mayor Navarro that he will post tarpaulins in Mactan International Airport showcasing the beautiful version of Niagara Falls - our very own Tinuy-an Falls, the famous "Jumping Salad", and other tourist destinations to attract local and foreign visitors to come to Bislig.
Morevoer, Engr. Nosdo also suggested to the mayor to consider opening to the public andto nearby localities the seaport. Bislig City has a good sea port however, no big ships has ever docked yet.

Also, Ms. Jonah Lafuente mentioned about availability of accomodations to backpackers. Share-A-Room can be a good idea. Like homestays, residents who are near a tourist destination can do business by sharing a room in their homes for travellers.

Mayor Navarro welcomed the ideas of Ms. Goyen, Ms. Melasa ,Ms. Lafuente and Engr. Nosdo. He appreciated all suggestions and he will discuss it to his constituents.

Election of Officers for "ULI SA BISLIG" program Cebu City Chapter follows
