THE QUEST… for OLD TIMES SAKE …….let’s do it

" If we could only save time in a bottle........... ! "  Jim Croce

By the way Mario, Ginger is in touch with Cookie Olbes. She lives in Madrid. According to Ginger, as soon as they started talking, it was like a continuation of when they were kids. I think Bislig did that to all of us. Someone should write a book .... Mario, why don't you write a book about Bislig and the families there. We should ask everyone to contribute.. specially tita Letty Castillo,. I'm sure we all have pictures. That would be a great project, specially most of us are connected by internet.  It does not need a lot of words, mostly pictures. I gave Robby a CD with old pictures that I had scanned.
Concept: Original bislig families from 1950s and where each one has landed.
Example, about an hour away from us, in Kriens Luzern, lives the grandson of Artemio Cosico, anak ni Rebecca. Everytime he calls, my son says; Ma why does he call you tita Lita? We are not related. My explanation: our family grew up with his mother's family in Bislig.

Its not good that I am on vacation. I am getting carried away. Think about it Mario, please. I'll help as much as I can. I'm sure everyone will. Even father Peter Schreurs. That man has a fantastic memory. I hope he is still alive.

Okay, I will not push. I just felt a bit nostalgic after having been in
Bislig thanks to you. Seeing Richard Castillo, Ruth Malinao, Inocencio Sayawam, Boy and Victor Villa, Willy Fuentes, etc. etc.

thanks Mario. Its slowly sinking in now that I was really lucky to have been able to go back to Bislig.

Hi Lita & Brod Mai,

I like your idea of putting up like a history book. Siguro, we can start with photos first (all scanned ) with captions. Puwedeng dagdagan ng kaunting istorya right away or along time.

We should arrange this in chronological order, whoever came first (by family) in the early '50s ... and so on. We should have another set of group photos like social or school events, etc.

Mart Santos

Mart, 'Tita' Lita - the book idea is great .. I'll interview my mom about her first years in Bislig and dig up some pics to contribute to the book project.

 Regards to all,

Vince Castillo

I 'd like to ball start this noble plan of creating a bislig family history book foto album by coming forward this early, to say, that i have in my possession, lots of valuable and memorable fotos of Mangagoy starting in 1950, the year the Villa's family settled in Mangagoy.
I will make these fotos available for this grandiose plan of ours.

The FOB project is something to look forward to.. I will help in whatever way I can...

My dear FOB's,
Lita's idea is great. Something to treasure for a
lifetime.
Count me in if I can help in any way. The people I can
contact are the two Olbes brothers - Ramon and Rene
and Susie Kerr (only child and daughter of Glenn and
Joan Kerr) who lives in
Tasmania
(the end of the world
as far as
Australia
is concerned - the last island
before Antartica although still quite a distance
away). Also a resident of
Tasmania
is Jeff Kelly and
his sister. His parents (I only rmember the tall
blonde mother, Joanne) also live in
Tasmania
. Bobby
and Ronald Creutz I believe are still in the
U.S.

Navy. Will check. Any other Australian and
New Zealand
residents, I can help track down. Lets get to it. This
project may take some time to do but we can ceratinly
track people down now.
Cheers.

My dear FOBs,
Did I start an avalanche? Sorry ha. Si Mario hindi nagkokomment.
Its a good idea though isn't it? It might just escalate too much so we have
to keep it manageable.
What we should do is prepare a questionnaire and send it to everyone (something
like what Martin suggested) one member of the family will be in charge of
filling it in and sending a family picture. Parang yearbook type. Does not
have to be too professional so it won't be very expensive. Siguro one or
two pages per family - depending on the size of the family.
I'll take care of the Misa and Cosico families (with the help of Cholo Cosico
Rivera), maybe also the dos Remedios families (remember them? does anyone
have contacts with Jocelyn, Willimae, Johnny boy, Jose Marie?), What about
the Creuz family? There are also the dela Vegas (Tonichi and Nena) ....

Hi Lita,

So sorry, I had some problems in the office which needed my attention  and kept me busy last week. I've been seriously considering your suggestion which has stupefied me. It's not only a good idea - it's a great idea! Yes, let's make it like a yearbook with each family represented. But how to do it is again a different matter. Perhaps we could first make a list of the families each one of us know from way back. The list should include families inside and outside camp. Then we segregate the families by year and ask each family representative to write something about Bislig and send in pictures such as memorable people, places (i.e. Bislig town proper, barrio Mangagoy, Barcelona, Lingig, Forest Drive, Scaling, San Jose, Simulao, Danipas, Bugak river, Km. 2 waterfalls, Hagonoy island, Bat Island, Bislig river, Tinuy-an falls....etc.) and of course events (basketball games, boxing , badminton, pelota, bowling and tennis tournaments, judo and karate exhibitions, school programs, visits by company executives, ex-presidents, senators and the like. After gathering all info and pictures, we consolidate and edit the book or whatever name we finally decide to call it.

Just thinking about your idea overwhelms me! Imagine, Bislig Bay Lumber was organized in 1947 (??) but the families started pouring in from 1950 and thereabouts. That's more than half a century! We wouldn't want anybody to be left out di ba??

Inasmuch as this would entail a lot of info gathering, i propose to  create a special committee composed of Bisliganons here and abroad who would be interested and willing to participate in our undertaking. Was it Duckie or Cookie Olbes who was in the country recently? I was then in Davao and could not come to Manila and arrange a get together.

Lastly, I wish to encourage anyone to come up with ideas and suggestions on a better way to undertake this project. WHEW!!!!

best regards,

mario b.

Dear FOB,

I will do my share to make this undertaking a great success. Kindly, everyone, please make some comments/ suggestions to Lita's messages below. Please see my comments below (in bold letters).

I will try to interview Father Peter Schreurs, MSC who was the parish priest
of Lingig during the pioneer days and was a frequent visitor of Bislig.
I hope he is still alive because the mind of that person is like volumes
and volumes of information. He translated the book written by a missionary
Father Pablo Pastells, SJ entitled ?
Mission to Mindanao 1859 ? 1900? from
Spanish to English. He gave me all 3 volumes when I visited him in
Holland

years ago. He told me I did not have to read it. ?just leaf through it and
you will see a lot of names of places you know?.  Bislig is mentioned a
lot. Maybe I should start reading it nga.

Okay everyone, remember the fun days and share your memories with us.

Brods Mart/Manny/Mario,

I see myself, as a "pro active contributor", to the FOB's objective of producing a bislig history book.  My contribution to this effort, will include, providing to the web group, a scanned rare fotos of Mangagoy in the 1950-55 era.

When i get the direction from the webgroup team or from brod Mario WHEN and WHERE to download the fotos, i will immediately download the same, without fail.

 Regards,

 Mon Villa

Hi Mart,

I am so thrilled about this project of compiling pictures and stories about Bislig.  I have very fond memories of Bislig.  We were all trully blessed to have grown up in such a paradise.  Keep in touch.
